  1. Poverty is a condition where citizens of a certain country do not have enough money to pay its daily needs. Poverty is a problem experienced in many countries. It can be measure by using absolute measurement and relative measurement. Absolute measuremeent is a type of measurement where countries choose a certain amount of money to indicate poverty(ex: in 2013-2014 is $1.25). However, the problem is that currency rate is different in all countries. This caused the measurement not really valid. Relative measurement is a measurement used inside the country. Ex: In US, $10 a day is not good. However, in Indonesia, $10 (Rp. 120,000) is considered quite good already. Poverty is a problem up to now. It is an obstacle for each country to face.

Poverty is wide spread all over the world because of laziness. Right now, most of the poor young generations are lazy because they see their parents working hard, yet they are still poor. Some parents are lazy and don't want to work, that's why they are poor. Another reason is because of the poverty cycle.. The poverty cycle starts with poor parents causing children unable to get proper education and healthcare. Without proper education, it is unlikely for them to succeed. Therefore, most of the children turned into poor people in the future. And the cycle repeats itself again. The next reason is the dependence to agriculture. A farmer might be unemployed just because his land experienced tsunamis/volcanic eruptions. It will take longer time for him to get back at his own feet. He should find new land, which is hard because natural resources is not a lot right now.

Some ways that could help solve property is to build more free schools and healthcare. Right now, in Indonesia, here are more than 100 free schools for children. It is quite good, but government has to build even more to improve. In Jakarta, there is Kartu Jakarta Sehat (Health Card)for poor people to go to hospital without paying. This is good, biut still, there's always room for improvements. Another thing is to educate parents to realize that education is very important. Their children needs to have education to have a better future. This way, parents will be motivated to work harder to help their children go to school. The next solution is to teach poor people how to do things(art and craft, etc) and provide them work fields. This way, they can have a job and income for then and their children.

So, in order to solve poverty, we need to fins the root of the problem, which includes the poverty cycle) and help the citizens to realize that they need to work hard for them and their children's future. Because one of the few things to overcome poverty is to have education and to have the mentality to succeed( which can be gotten from trainings by government, etc).

  2. Poverty is the condition where people can’t even buy daily needs, since they received a very small amount of income per capita,They received less than $ 1.25 per day.The reason they are poor is because they don’t have an education so they can’t get a good job which have a good salary and most of them will spend their money on the daily needs but not on education and health care since they have a limited amount of money. But we can’t always measure poverty with the amount of income they received ,we should also measure some of the social reasons such as education ,health care.
There will be a possible way for government to overcome this problem by giving subsidies for education, healthcare, and others. The government can also support the small business to grow since they have a potential to grow bigger, they can also provide infrastructure to the countries so the people will be motivated to work. The government can also increase their living standard by giving subsidies on their daily needs and health care so there will be a low death rate.
The government in Indonesia allready providing a free education ,and health care. But it would not be effective since the school condition is bad and the health care facilities is also bad so people will choose to work rather than studying. So the government need to provide an effective way in providing education and health care by considering the condition of the school and hospitals. If it is efficient the people will be smarter and they can get a good job and a high paid job,by doing this government actually make a long term investment to the countries they will received more revenue from the direct tax since the number people working is also increase, government now only need to spend less money for subsidies since the number of people living in poor in the countries have decreased.
Government can support and encourage small business since they have a potential to grow bigger and providing a big workplace for the people in the countries, the government can also give them subsidies so they can produce a cheaper goods which will attract people in the countries to buy it.It will increase the number of gross domestic product in the countries. The government need to spend a lot of money to do this but the government should better consider this as a long term investment for the countries to developed become a better countries .
The government should provide a good infrastructure to the countries such as road, railway, transportation, working conditions, and others. So the people in the countries will be motivated to work and inspired to make a business in the countries, Make people easier to find job. It will also attract investor when they see the condition of the countries is promising.
The government can reduce poverty by improving the social mobility by making the school, colleges in the countries more affordable for people. government should also provide a good quality of school so there will be no inequalities both in free school and private school.

    1. Good work George,
you have explained the reasons and has given some suggestion for removing the poverty.
At your level we expect little more exclusivity and well referenced explanations. Don't forget, discuss question must be followed by a strong conclusion.

  3. Reasons of wide spread poverty are:
    • Lack of education can cause poverty because they cant find a good job to survive in their daily life.
    • High medical bill can cause poverty or death because people that need to see a doctor can’t go to the hospital because of expensive medical bill.
    • Crisis can cause poverty because many company gone bankrupt and fire all the employee and it can cause poverty because many people become unemployed.
    • Lose of job can cause poverty because people cant buy anything to survive
    • High tax can cause poverty also because people with low income must pay a high tax and the disposable income is low
    • Unemployment can cause poverty because people don’t have money to survive
Poverty cycle when poor parents cant give their children a good education and good healthcare.when their children don’t have a good education, they don’t have a good job to survive their daily life, and their children also become a poor people in the future and the cycle is repeated every generation.
The solution that government give are giving a free education from primary to high school but sometimes poor people cant even afford to buy their children books and uniform, that’s why government should also provide books and uniform to the poor people. The second solution is subsidies, governmentgive subsidies to poor people, example: rice and LPG and gasoline. The third solution is government lower the tax of minimum wage salary.Government should also give free public transportation so people can reduce their spending on transportation.

  4. Poverty—defined from the Merriam Webster dictionary—is the state of being poor. It is found everywhere in the world; some places with higher percentages of poverty and some lower, thus the main reasons for this includes 4 major factors: employment rates, education, government ignorance (corruption as well) and overpopulation.

The problem in many parts of the world right now is that there is low employment rates, especially with the economic condition we are going through, if educated people cannot find jobs, there is a large chance that uneducated people cannot find jobs either, resulting to them living in poverty, which also brings us to the second reason; education. As many people are dropping out of school, as written in the table, the percentage of US jobs a high school dropout is not eligible for is 90%, and although dropout rates are slowly falling, the 3 million teenagers (http://www.statisticbrain.com/high-school-dropout-statistics/) who have dropped out have little or no chance of finding a well-paid job, resulting them to be on the poverty line. Another reason includes government ignorance and/or corruption. As the government doesn’t see the use in spending money on these people since, "Widening inequality is creating a vicious circle where wealth and power are increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few, leaving the rest of us to fight over crumbs from the top table.” (http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/jan/20/oxfam-85-richest-people-half-of-the-world) or the fact that they have corrupted large amounts of money from funds to reduce poverty, both reasons in the end contribute to even more poverty. The last reason is because of overpopulation, where the country has too many people to feed, there becomes a shortage of food and water, increasing the prices of both).
There are many solutions to this problem, such as providing food banks, where people living in poverty can still be able to get free, healthy meals and can save money from this. Subsidising necessities of the people can also contribute to helping the poverty-stricken people as they will be able to afford basic necessities like clothing, shelter and food (like Ontario). Another way is to have free (or subsidised) and proper education for those who haven’t finished school, making it easier for them to find jobs and become employed. Lastly, the government can help poverty-stricken families in programmes like training adults how to get jobs by being confident, looking the part, etc.

“The living standard and the level of social protection for poor people have not been well-maintained. The number of households returning to poverty is high. The core poor region is mostly in mountainous areas where a large number of ethnic groups live. The next period requires greater efforts to reduce poverty sustainably.” (http://vietnamnews.vn/opinion/in-the-spotlight/240858/income-not-the-only-measure-of-poverty.html)

The quote above shows that there are major complications in making poverty disappear is that it will take up a lot of time, analysis and effort from the country itself. First, the country will have to spend heaps of government revenue on research made specifically on what causes poverty and efficient ways to overcome it. The next step is implementing programmes and funds for these people, and third is to make sure poverty is well under control by the government.

In conclusion, the last traces of poverty is a long-term, fully-dedicaated goal that can be resolved by government intervention in education, food, necessities, etc. that specifically contributes to poverty in the country.

  6. Poverty is a condition when a person in a certain country does not have much money to buy his or her own daily needs because they don’t have job or their wages or salaries are low. The poorest people will also have less access to health, education and other services. Problems of hunger, malnutrition and disease afflict the poorest in society. The poorest are also typically marginalized from society and have little representation or voice in public and political debates, making it even harder to escape poverty.

Poverty is on the indicator of economic development of economic development of the country, by knowing the percentage of poverty in the country we can know the quality life in the country. Poverty causes by many factors that comes the persons its self or the situation in the society. A person can get job if the persons apply a job but there are a persons that to lazy to work so he or she do not want to apply for a job, but not all persons apply for a job will be accepted they should fulfill all the criteria that the company want. Most of them rejected because they do have a good education so they cannot apply for a job that makes them unemployment. Many persons are well educated but why they cannot get job also? This happen because a limited supply of job and there a lot of people want people want to get job so they can buy there need and want.

Government always trying to press downs the amount of poor people/ poverty in the country. Government give many subsides to the poor people so they can buy there needs the money comes form the tax that the high or normal income / wages, the poor people do not need to pay tax the government do this so the money they have more money so they can buy there needs or maybe wants. The government builds a better in infrastructure such as hospital, toll road, hydroelectric dam, etc. the infrastructure can provide new jobs and give better transportation, communication, etc. government give free health care to decrease the amount of death rate.

Poverty can cause a long-term problem to the country such as increasing the government expenses that makes decrease in government property.

  7. Poverty is a condition when a person don’t have enough money to buy their daily needs, such as food, cloth, and even shelter. There are two types of poverty, the first one is absolute poverty, this is when a person earn less than $1 a day, its hard to fulfill their basic needs. The second type of poverty is relative poverty, it’s a condition when the people have less than the surrounding, but actually they can buy basic need such as food, clothing and shelter.
People are poor because they don’t have a good education so they cant find a good job, the other reason is because people are lazy to work so they only earn small amount of money. There are many reasons of wide spread poverty are such as, lack of education, high medical bill, unemployment, high taxes and even crisis.

Poverty has become one of the major problems in the world’s economy right now, slowing down the economic growth of one’s country. Poverty itself is divided into absolute and relative poverty, and poverty seems to be the outline of a developing or less-developed countries, but actually, poverty is still present in developed countries as well.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Shah A., 2013, Causes of Poverty, Place of publication: Internet/ Website, http://www.globalissues.org/issue/2/causes-of-poverty, accessed per 16 February, 2014)
    (Matthew C., 2014)

Poverty happens because of various reasons, and the first one is because of income gap. The difference between the richest and the poorest people in the country causes inequality, and these low-paid workers will complain why they get very low wages as compared to the richer ones. This jealousy might lead up to an increased crime and violence in a country and affect social cohesion. The increasing number of robbers, thieves, and terrorists will make citizens feel uncomfortable and unsafe living in that particular city/ country, and citizens can’t claim their rights and welfare to live peacefully in the country.
Secondly, structural adjustment policies prescribed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank gives cutbacks in health, education and other vital social services around the world. People who gets less income actually has to benefit from these free or subsidized social services in order to live a normal standard of living, however, if government gives out too much money for subsidizing the poor citizens, government will have less revenue to develop the country and their infrastructure further. The less the government subsidizes the citizens, the more revenue government has to develop the country and its infrastructure.
Third is the habit of the citizens. What matters most actually isn’t the amount of income workers gets, but about the good/ bad habit of the citizens in the country. If example a person gets less salary but he worked harder and try to be more productive in the business/ firm, he might earn a higher salary in a good manner, and a mutual benefit for the government because they can get higher revenues from the salary of these workers.

    (Matthew C., 2014)

There are ways poverty can happen and be spread worldwide, and so are there ways to reduce/ diminish poverty out of the world. The first way: Creating better job fields. As countries are measured whether they are developed or still developing by economic indicators, government can reduce poverty by using the measure of an economic indicator: employment rate. The higher and more stable the employment rate is, the better and more developed a country is; and vice versa. So by government creating better work fields for the unemployed or workers employed in less-developing work fields, workers can now gain a more decent salary, plus they can get extra fringe benefits from these businesses/ firms. Not only do they get more salary; they might also be trained so they can be more productive in their works, which is good for three: the worker, the business/ firm and the government.
Next, government can also give incentives to citizens/ workers to have a family. This way, there will be less sexual abusement happening across countries, and family members can help each other’s finances out. Parents are also being given incentives and subsidies for the cost of giving birth and the cost of living of their children, because children can help their parents later on as they gets older, and there’s also going to be someone to take care of their mom and dad when they’re older later.

To sum it all, poverty can happen, and so can it not happen. As long as there is help from the government and the spirit from the citizens, both parts can work together to make the country grow and develop better, and so will the world be a better place.
