Traffic Problem and its solutions

I agree to the subject that rise in parking fees can actually solve the traffic problem in Jakarta. By increasing parking fees private vehicles will think twice about going out using their own transportation. This will convince people owning vehicles to ride public transportation instead. It will absolutely decrease usage in private transportation. But nowadays public transportations are not well organized and you can say "filthy". Some people might not want to ride public transportation because of the lack of hygiene. Governments must pay more attention to the safety and cleanliness of public transportations in Jakarta. Jakarta's population is massive and governments can actually benefit the number of population for the usage of public transportation. Parking fees are now around Rp. 2000,- until Rp. 3000,-. If the fees increases the positive impact is that probably the usage of private transportation will decrease, but the negative impact is it will cause protests and demonstrations for people who can't afford it. I suggest, the fees should increase slowly as the time goes by. It will slowly reduce the amount of transportation and helps solving the traffic problem in Jakarta. However, we can't only rely on this solution, the government needs more smart ideas to prevent and solve the traffic problems in Jakarta. Like for example; increase the quality of public transportation, increase taxes to buy vehicles, increase taxes for importing goods, etc. I can conclude that rise in parking fees can solve traffic problem in Jakarta, but this is only one of thousands of solutions.

  2. Indeed I agree with the statement stated on the news. People will start to reduce their use of private transportation as the parking fees rises in Jakarta. It is true that raising the fees would decrease the traffic in Jakarta, but we must consider about other people that can’t afford to pay it. We can see in Jakarta, the systems of public transportation are still considered as bad. Some people prefer to use private transport because the bus stops in Jakarta are lack of cleanliness and the risk that could happen on the bus. Jakarta buses are still lack of safety, which make people to think twice to use the buses. Sure in every solution there are negative and positive impacts. The positive impacts are that traffic jam can be reduced and government will received taxes to be use in the future. The negative impacts are that people would get angry and started riots like in the petrol’s case. So we have to see and investigate both sides so we can have the middle point of the problem. People want traffic jam decreased while they have to pay more and people want more safety and hygiene services with the public transportation. So I take my conclusion which is government use the taxes that they gained from the increasing parking fees to increase the quality of the public transportation, taxpayer will also gain advantage such as decreased traffic jam in Jakarta, and government must find more alternatives so everyone needs and wants can be satisfied. -Leonardo Marcellino 10 BN

  4. But until now the government has not provided good facilities that makes people think to use public facilities and moved from private vehicles to public transportation. The increase in parking rates in Jakarta can cause a variety of statements from various parties. The increase the rates can burden the poor community. The increase in rates also been in govenment try to raise rates from Rp.2000 to Rp.3000 but still can't reduce problems in Jakarta. Due to the measure taken by the government to raise the parking rates without provideing adequate public facillities and provide a lot options for all people to use public facillities for all activities. This step may not be able to reduce the problems in jakarta, because the cost of parking in Jakarta are still fairly cheap. Only Rp.2000 - Rp.3000 with users parking lots are mostly rich people who are not too concerned with the cost of parking and they stil use private vehicle. They do not want to use the public transportations in jakarta because a lack of decent facillities. The main cause of congestion in jakarta is motor vehicles. With the price of motor is fairly cheap and most people have it make congestion in Jakarta getting worse. Maybe the government can raise parking rates for motor vehicle which was originally only Rp.1000 - Rp.2000 to Rp.2000 - Rp.3000. Maybe its can reduce the congestion in Jakarta. But the government should think of the poor people by providing appropriate transportation with the best price.

  5. I agree with the new policy to rising the parking fees, because already 8 years Jakarta doesn't increase the parking fees and it will make people think twice to use their own cars and go with the public transportation such as: taxi, bus, Trans Jakarta and others, but the government must tell us earlier before the increase because it will be surprising to many people, like me last friday I went to Plaza Indonesia, one of mall in Jakarta. I went there with my sister and when I went home, me and my sister surprised because it's increasing to IDR 3,000 per hour and we must paid for IDR 15,000 because we already 5 hours in the mall, usually we just paid for IDR 10,000 for 5 hours but now it's a very big different. Government must know when they increasing the parking fees they must increase the quality of public transportation in Jakarta. Jakarta is a big city and the capital of Indonesia but in this city has a bad public facilities and transportation not like other countries that have nice public transportation like in Singapore they have MRT, in Malaysia they have Monorail but as you can see in Jakarta the construction of monorail isn't finished yet and you just can see the pillars like in Senayan. When the government increase the fees for parking off the street, the parking that on the street will increase too because of naughty officer that want more money. Before the increase, parking fees in off the street is IDR 2,000 and usually if we parked on the street we can't just give them IDR 2,000 they will asked for another IDR 1,000 or IDR 2,000 and now in the presence of the rising parking fees in off the street that increase to IDR 3,000 per hour for cars and IDR 6,000 per hour for trucks and pick-up, they will see this opportunity and ask more money for parking on the street. For some people that wealthy they don't focus too much on this problem because they will said "Ya, no problem just increase IDR 1,000" and they will use their own cars like usual but this policy just can make a little bit change for who that not wealthy and will take the public transportation. Government must provide the best public facilities and transportation with low cost, cozy, clean and safety area because if we're having like MRT and Monorail, many workers will feel the benefit and will decided to take MRT or Monorail to go to work than their own cars and the traffic in Jakarta will solved as soon as possible.

  7. I agree that the rise in parking fees can solve traffic problem in Jakarta. If the price of off-street parking increase, people will think twice to use their own/private transportation. However, the rise in parking fees could make some problems like protest or demonstration. Some people may be disadvantaged by this decision and some people are not. Like wealthy people, they don’t have to worry about this decision.
The rise in parking fees also have to followed by the increase in the quality of public transportations. Government also should have to make some new public transport that can carry more passengers such as MRT, Monorail, Tram, or maybe train like Shinkansen in Japan. The rise in parking fees will increase government income that can be used to increase the quality of public transportation. The traffic problem in Jakarta cannot be solved quickly. Government have to persuade people to use public transportations. As the time goes by, the user of public transport will rise slowly. If the user of public transport increase, the government income will increase as well. That money can be used to make the quality of public transport better and increase the total of public transport so that can cover all of the Jakarta citizen. If the quality is much better, wealthy people may also willing to use public transport. The development of public transport will give many advantages to Jakarta citizen, they can go to another places quickly and also with low cost. However, rising the parking fees is not the only way to solve Jakarta traffic problem, there are several ways to solve it. –Charles 10BN

  8. Can't agree more to the statement above that rising parking fees could solve the traffic in Jakarta. People will tend to use more on public transportation than drive their own private vehicles, whether it's busway that have been provided by the government or others like taxi. Many people might less drive with their own private transportation because of the rising fees for the parking that makes them think it twice than they usually do. That will reduce the traffic in Jakarta and the usage of public transportation is increasing so the streets will free from traffic problem or others congestion that this recent years have been the main of Jakarta's problems, but unfortunately today public transportation facilities are less desirable because of the facilities that have been provided less satisfactory for other passengers. In that case, government should focused more on this serious problem by providing more expenditure on the public transportation to gain more attraction from the societies. It will be more efficient for country’s economies to increased incomes for the country whether to place parking prising or it can called by metered parking that in higher parking fees, in certain places that refers to direct charges for using a parking space or may be use public transportation, so many people will use and pay for the public transportation. With it can provides a lot of benefits that will improve convenience for the user, reduced the traffic problems, protect air qualities, driving safety and increased revenues. Then, the money could be use for the public transportation for better alternatives and can also fixed any damaged or less comfortable roads for the riders, but the government should make sure the strategies for the incomes must be complement by the alternative transportation improvements for public's and the price of increases in parking do not too high. If not, the people will get fight against the rising fees park prices with a protest and great demonstration for the usage of the others riders.

    1. I agree for the statement that Rise the parking fees can solve traffic problem in Jakarta. In Jakarta we still don't have policy for own or restriction private transportation, and the prices for Car is cheaper than in developed countries that selling car with high prices. Because of these 2 things, there is traffic jam in Jakarta. The Increases of parking fees will affect people to use public transportation that is cheaper or use private transportation with high parking fees. I think many people wish to use public transportation as long as it clean, save and cheap. But in reality, Public transportation in Jakarta such as Kopaja, Metromini, even Transjakarta have not fulfill our criteria(demand). My suggestion for government is to improve or fix public transportation, so there will be no criminal anymore, and people are willing to use public transportation happily, and government should make policy for people who damage the property of public transportation or doing criminal, and give heavy penalty to them.If it possible, it's better if government adding more transjakarta or continue built monorail because it's already in half way.For the increases parking fees, it is better if government rise it slowly, so people won't feel the effect directly so there will be no demonstration or something, and over time they will realize that parking fees spend much money and they will use public transportation to cut their expenditure. because of doing this many positive things, it will advantages for the government, because if many people spend money in public transportation it will increases country's revenue.

  12. I agree ,because people do not want to pay expensive parking fees, especially for poor people because they have to considered their income too, they won't spend much money only for parking fees nowadays many peoples use motorcycles to go to work,if the parking fees have increased from Rp.500 to Rp.1000, they will think twice to use their own vehicle, but another problem is government announced the new policy to sudden , so they can't prepared it can trigger demonstration this problem can be happend,to overcome this problem government shoul pay attention in fix the public transportations because some peoples said that public transportations is not well intergrated , or may be government can adding more public transportations such as MRT,cable car, subways, monorails, and etc so the society will feel comfortable and safe to use public transportations besides that they will think that use public transportation will be more faster because they will be no traffic jam for public transportation..With the new policy and also with the taxes .Government can reduce the traffic jam because people will be attracted to use public transportations because it cheaper than their own transportation, furthermore it can incearse the country's income from public transportation also it can reduce the pollutions , if the pollutions are decreasing it also reduce the diseases such as lungs disease and etc.

  13. i agree ,because the private vehicle users will think twice if you want to use personal vehicle ,even with the people who will buy a private vehicle would that of course they will be spending more and improved ,so maybe they will choose public transportation provided by government . But that doesn't mean government not make changes to the existing public transport in Jakarta ,with the rise in parking fees also increase the result obtain by government also increased money raised from the tax can be used to improve existing public transport ,for example:TransJakarta a lot of bus of transjakarta damaged hasn't been repaired .
And this resulted society needs for public transportation can't satisfied society needs ,The government could establish a new public transportation that more comfortable ,safer, and affordable because more and more development of the new public transport will so much reduce private vehicle users .because most of the private vehicle users are workers ,and they need fast and comfort transport so they will arrived at they workplace as soon as possible and on time . government may be build monorails, more subway , increase the bus of transjakarta. Also increase the security level in area of public transport so crime, abduction, abuse, pickpocketing not happen again . because if the revenue from the public transport rise ,that can effect a lot of change of traffic problem that happen in Jakarta because the revenue can use to build more and more public transport in Jakarta and will reduce traffic problem in Jakarta because society needs can be satisfied
